NEP Health Initiative image
July 2020, OMHC, in partnership with Iota Tau and Upsilon Beta Beta Chapters of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. received a grant funded by the South Carolina Cancer Alliance to establish a project named, “No Excuses - Promises (NEP) Cancer Project. The project goal was to encourage more African American men to seek early cancer screening for colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers. Although the focus goal of the project was African American Men, all men were encouraged to participate. The project achieved its goals for the identified timeframe. The official end date for the grant was December 31, 2021. However, Omega Men of Horry County realized to have a major impact on the community of African American men seeking early screening for cancer, the project goal had to be continuous, therefore, OMHC is continuing to sponsor the NEP Cancer Project as a major health initiative. All men in are encouraged to participate.

To effectively reach out to men in Georgetown, Horry, Marion, and Georgetown counties, the NEP Cancer team collaborates with community leaders and is partnering with selected churches who are providing year-round informational sessions; (March - Colorectal Cancer Month), (September - Prostate Cancer Month), and (November -Lung Cancer Month). Partner Churches help NEP ensure activities/messages are ongoing about the importance of seeking early cancer screening.
